Troy Sybert, MD, MPH, appointed EVP and Chief Medical Officer
September 2, 2014Franklin, TN. September 2, 2014 — Capella Healthcare has announced the appointment of Troy E. Sybert, MD, MPH, as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, effective September 1, according to Michael Wiechart, President and Chief Executive Officer.
“With his impressive education and experience in both medicine and business, Dr. Sybert brings outstanding qualifications to this position,” said Wiechart. “He is a proven leader whose work has resulted in the improvement of care, enhanced physician leadership and the development of patient-centric delivery systems. We look forward to having him join our Capella team.”
Sybert came from Wellmont Health System in Kingsport, where he served as Chief Quality and Medical Information Officer since 2010. An integrated health care delivery system, Wellmont owns and operates six acute care hospital facilities and two nursing homes, in addition to diverse ambulatory operations, located in northwest Tennessee and southwest Virginia. Prior to that, he was Chief Medical Officer for University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX for four years.
Sybert earned his medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 2001, completing a combined internship and residency in internal medicine and general preventive medicine. Board-certified in public health and general preventive medicine, he completed a fellowship in Hospital Medicine at Mayo Clinic. He also completed a master’s degree in public health at University of Texas Medical Branch while achieving certification in Six Sigma/Lean Thinking from the American Society for Quality.
As CMO, Sybert assumes senior leadership responsibility for Capella’s affiliated hospitals’ quality and service excellence initiatives. He will also facilitate the work of Capella’s National Physician Leadership Group, ensuring that physician leaders from across the company are continuously involved in shaping the company’s vision and future strategies. Each Capella-affiliated hospital has a Physician Leadership Group (PLG) consisting of 6-10 members representing a cross-section of its medical staff. The PLG provides input to hospital leadership on all aspects of operations, including strategic development, key initiatives, quality improvement, patient and employee satisfaction, and more. One member from each hospital’s PLG is designated to serve on Capella’s National Physician Leadership Group (NPLG), bringing the physician perspective to all major decisions.
Sybert and his wife are moving to the Nashville area with their three sons.
“Capella has a talented team of healthcare leaders which I look forward to joining,” Sybert said. “From the boardroom to the patient’s bedside, supporting our physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff must be paramount in this era of health reform. It will be an honor to be part of that ongoing effort to provide safe and compassionate care each and every day in the facilities throughout the system.”
