Bill Southwick appointed Chief Operating Officer at Capital Medical Center

May 19, 2014 – Bill Southwick has been named Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Capital Medical Center (CMC), effective May 19, according to Jim Geist, Chief Executive Officer (CEO). As Chief Operating Officer, Southwick will have operational oversight for the hospital’s laboratory, pharmacy, imaging services, advanced wound care center, rehabilitation services, food services, environmental services, engineering services and security.
Having worked in hospitals for 23 years, including the last 17 in leadership roles, Southwick brings significant experience to his new position. He comes to Capital Medical Center from Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa, AZ, where he served as Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Prior to that, he was CNO at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center in Salt Lake City. In addition to his CNO responsibilities, he has also had operational oversight for other clinical and non-clinical departments.
A native of Idaho, Southwick holds a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing as well as a master’s degree in nursing education, both from Idaho State University. In addition to his CNO experience, Southwick also has extensive experience as a Staff Nurse and as a Nurse Educator. He has achieved nurse executive, advanced-board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
An Eagle Scout, Southwick enjoys volunteering time with the Boy Scouts of America. He is also fluent in Italian. He and his wife have four children and just celebrated their 25th anniversary.
