Capella Healthcare Presents Check For More Than $14,000 To Aid In Disaster Relief
June 30, 2011Donation Goes To The Care Fund Which Is Assisting Health Professionals in Seven States
Franklin, TN – Capella Healthcare has presented a check for $14,156.10 to assist in disaster relief efforts throughout the south. The check matched dollar-for-dollar donations made by the company’s workforce to any organizations assisting with disaster relief. The presentation was made by Capella Healthcare’s CEO Dan Slipkovich to Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) President Craig Becker, representing The Care Fund.
“It is heartening to see a company like Capella stepping forward to assist fellow healthcare workers in their time of need,” said Becker. “Every day Capella caregivers provide services to their patients and communities and now to their fellow caregivers.”
“People throughout the South and Midwest, where 11 of Capella’s hospitals are located, suffered devastating losses from the recent tornadoes and floods. While many other organizations and businesses can close in preparation for tornados, blizzards or floods, hospital employees and physicians must work around the clock, caring for their communities while often entrusting their own families to someone else’s care,” Slipkovich said. “We chose to give this donation to The Care Fund to recognize the dedication and commitment of healthcare professionals throughout the country.”
Originally established following Hurricane Katrina, The Care Fund was designed specifically to assist hospital employees impacted by disasters. It is being administered by state hospital associations in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Donations are to be disbursed to affected hospital employees in these states as well as Missouri, which was added following the Joplin tornado. One hundred percent of all contributions will go directly to hospital employees, and all contributions are tax deductible. While Capella’s matching gift went to The Care Fund to assist healthcare professionals throughout the seven impacted states, the company matched financial gifts donated by any of its workforce members to any organizations providing disaster relief to the affected areas between April 27 and June 3. The workforce includes employees, medical staff, volunteers, and contract personnel.
